The Pilates Reformer

As its name suggests, the reformer is a piece of Pilates equipment that can be used to ‘reform’ your body. One of the most adaptable pieces of equipment in a studio, it allows you to lengthen and strengthen simultaneously whilst working all of your body.

It comprises a bed-like frame with a flat platform (carriage) that rolls backwards and forwards. Springs are attached to the carriage and can be adjusted to different resistance levels depending on the exercise being performed. There is a limitless selection of exercises for all body parts that can be practised in sitting, standing, lying, and kneeling positions. Reformers are also adjustable for different body sizes and levels of skill.

The Pilates reformer machine can help improve strength and flexibility by facilitating your body’s work through an increased range of motion, allowing for more efficient daily movement. An excellent posture improver, Pilates practised on the reformer can help improve muscle control of the spine, pelvis, and shoulder girdles and address muscular imbalances.

The reformer is our most popular piece of equipment, used daily by London City physiotherapists and rehab trainers. It is essential to any rehabilitation and training environment.
