Western Acupuncture

London City Physiotherapy provides rapid access to expert treatment and support. Acupuncture is especially beneficial in headaches, neck pain, low back pain, and knee pain. Physiotherapists, Sports physicians, and GPs now widely use acupuncture in Western medicine to treat musculoskeletal pain. A multitude of research projects and established scientific evidence have proved its efficacy as a treatment for pain management.

All of our highly qualified physiotherapists have completed specific postgraduate training in acupuncture following a 3–4 year degree to become members of the AACP (Acupuncture Association for Chartered Physiotherapists).

At London City Physiotherapy, we use acupuncture in conjunction with other treatments for musculoskeletal problems to relieve pain and get you back to full function.  Our Physiotherapists are in a unique position to combine acupuncture with other treatment methods, such as:

  • Exercise
  • Manipulation
  • Muscle re-education
  • Joint and soft tissue mobilisation
  • Electrotherapy
  • Sports rehabilitation

Traditional Acupuncture

Traditional acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine that has been used for over three thousand years. It is based on the theory that the body’s natural vitality and communications system, Qi, moves through the body in channels called meridians.

Pain and illness signal that the body, or Qi, is out of balance. There can be many reasons for this, including emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection, or injury. By inserting ultra-fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, a traditional acupuncturist seeks to re-establish the body’s equilibrium, triggering its natural healing response.

At London City Physiotherapy, our licensed acupuncturist, Paula Felgate, has undergone a three-year degree in acupuncture based on traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She has trained with one of the UK’s foremost experts and is registered with the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC).

Conditions treated by traditional acupuncture include:

  • Fertility: including pregnancy and post-natal
  • Women’s Health: menstrual pain, cramps, PMT
  • Muscular Pain (back, neck, shoulder, etc.)
  • Chronic and post-viral fatigue
  • Stress disorders: insomnia, jaw clenching and grinding, migraines
  • Digestive disorders, including IBS
